Fallece Bobby Cox, exmánager de Atlanta Braves, a los 84 años

#DEPORTES | Bobby Cox, el afable mánager de los Bravos de Atlanta cuyos equipos dominaron la Liga Nacional durante la década de 1990 y le dieron a la ciudad su primer campeonato, además de otras participaciones en la Serie Mundial, falleció a los 84 años.

Los Bravos anunciaron el fallecimiento de Cox el sábado; pero no dieron detalles. Sin embargo, se sabe que Cox sufrió un derrame cerebral en 2019.

“Bobby fue el mejor mánager que jamás vistió un uniforme de los Bravos”, señaló el equipo en un comunicado. “Condujo a nuestro equipo a 14 títulos divisionales consecutivos, cinco banderines de la Liga Nacional y el inolvidable título de la Serie Mundial en 1995. Su legado como mánager de los Braves nunca será igualado”.

Cox asumió el mando de un equipo que estaba en el último lugar en junio de 1990 y llevó a los Bravos a pasar de al primer puesto en 1991 antes de perder la Serie Mundial ante los Mellizos de Minnesota en siete juegos. Ese fue el inicio de lo que sería un récord de 14 títulos divisionales consecutivos, una hazaña que ningún equipo profesional de ningún deporte había logrado.

Dirigió a los Bravos durante 25 años y condujo a Atlanta a su único título de la Serie Mundial en 1995, se retiró después de la temporada de 2010 y fue exaltado al Salón de la Fama en 2014.
